What is DSE and why is it important?
DSE (Display Screen Equipment) are devices or equipment with screens used in the workplace such as laptops, tablets, mobile phones and PCs. It is important that we all have a workspace that prevents them from injury or strains and helps boost productivity and effectiveness. Uncomfortable working conditions can lead to further health and wellbeing risks. By making sure we are all DSE assessed ensures their safety and helps us make sure all staff are well supported.
To find out more information about DSE please take a look at the image below or watch this video for a an overview.
What should I expect at Safe Families and Home for Good?
We want to enable you to work safely and reduce the risks of working with DSE and therefore have asked all line managers to complete a DSE assessment with you on a yearly basis.
This meeting will be led by your line manager. Your line manager will arrange a meeting with you to complete this assessment which should take around 15 minutes. You will need to be seated at your desk in order for this to take place. This meeting will highlight to your line manager any actions or changes necessary for your work set up and will be recorded in the assessment.
- If you are contracted to work from home a member of the People and Culture team will complete this assessment with you initially online. Once you need another assessment (after 12 months) it is the responsibility of the line manager to complete this with you.

If you have experienced any symptoms relating to your eyes due to the use of screens please read this guidance regarding VDU glasses.
