This guidance should be read alongside the first aid needs checklist which helps to identify risk.
- The very minimum is that there is an appointed member of staff in each office who takes charge of the first aid arrangements, calling emergency services and ensuring a suitably stocked first aid box with all staff having a good knowledge of where the local A&E department is. There should be another staff member who can cover this role if that person is absent.
- If you are an office in which there can be more than 25 members of staff (e.g. team days) or you are more than 20 minutes by ambulance to A&E then we should have first-aiders on site. This could be a written arrangement with another company you share the office with or two of our staff trained to enable cover – one of those staff is then also the appointed person.
- If there are members of staff with particular health problems (even if in a small office) then a first aider may be appropriate (including additional training).
