A few people have experienced issues with their laptop speakers and/or microphone after installing the recent Windows 10 Version 2004 update.
…If your speakers and microphone are working fine, you won’t need to do anything!
If you have recently updated and are now having issues, the following steps should help:
Type Device Manager into the search box in the bottom left corner and select Device Manager from the results.
For Speaker issues:
Click the arrow alongside Sound, video and game controllers.
Right click on High Definition Audio Device and select Update Driver. Some of you may see Intel® Display Audio and Realtek options instead (if so, you may need to do the following steps for both of those options).
Select Browse my computer for drivers followed by Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
Highlight High Definition Audio Device from the available options (should be the top option in the list - if not available, select the earliest dated option) and press Next.
You will likely get an Update Driver Warning at this stage but nothing to worry about, press Yes to complete the process.
For Microphone issues (I’ve only seen one issue with the microphone so far, so not certain this is connected to the Version 2004 update):
Click the arrow alongside Audio inputs and outputs.
Right click on Microphone (High Definition Audio Device) and select Update Driver.
Select Browse my computer for drivers followed by Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
Highlight Audio Endpoint and press Next.
This should resolve issues caused by the update but feel free to get in touch if any problems persist.
