Hello team,
SUMMER HAS ARRIVED! It's official, Summer is here and we know for many that means festivals, holidays or more time with the family. For some we know it's business as usual. Whatever you are up to this Summer, we hope that it is fruitful and brings you joy. For now, let's catch up on some of the latest things that have been happening...
Who's Who?
This month we are launching a new way to look at who's who in the organisation by focusing in one a staff member to tell us a little about them and their role. In July, please meet Janice Myles a Family Support Manager from our central team. We asked her a couple of questions and here's what she had to say...
What does your day to day role as an FSM look like?
A typical day as an FSM could be visiting families or catching up on admin, some for the first time in a Meet the Family visit or introducing them to a Safe Families volunteer or meeting for a review. Or it could be picking up resources such as clothing provision to bless a family with.
What do you like about working for Safe Families and Home for Good and why did you think about applying for a role here?
I was a volunteer for three years and it gave me valuable insight to Safe Families, the families we support and a little understanding about what a FSM does! I love working for Safe Families and Home for Good. I enjoy working for a Christian organisation where Jesus is at the centre and gives purpose into what we do. I love connecting with the families I have the privilege of being FSM to and bringing hope and encouragement.

Working location and mileage
As you may know, since September 2024 we have been looking into the locations that we work in and how that effects things like mileage. We are pleased to say that we are now near to the end of this process. We have had working groups, surveys and feedback from many staff members and over the last month team leaders have been discussing with their teams how the new policy may impact locally. There are some updates to the mileage policy (you can view that here) and the claim form on the database has now changed reflect these. If you want any further information, you can take a look at this post on Slack and read about the question about 'primary vehicle type' which now appears on the form here. For any other questions, please do reach out to your manager or touch base with someone from People and Culture.
Flexi-time and TOIL
We are pleased to say that we have completed the trial period for our new flexi-time and TOIL process. All in all, this has been a success trial and therefore, this will become part of who we are as an organisation. The policy can be found here. Any questions please speak with your line manager or to the People and Culture team.
All Staff Call
At the beginning of July we had our All Staff Call which was a great time to get together and to hear a number of updates including information around the branding project and regional updates from the Regional Directors. If you missed it and you haven't managed to check it out yet, here is the link for you to be able to do that. We would also like to highlight this post from Matt in regard to the branding update, please do take some time to read this, respond to the survey and book in to a listening session.
Organisational Health Discussions
We want to thank everyone who managed to come to on of the organisational health discussions over the past few weeks. Your input has been really valuable and all that you shared will be worked together to form a three year action plan and statement of intent which will be shared in the Autumn.
Fundraising Update
Finally, we want to say a massive congratulations to our CEO's who completed their 107 mile tandem bike ride in the Gear Change Challenge to raise money for the work that we do. A huge shout out to all those who rode along, supported, fundraised and held the event together. For more details about how much was raised head over to Slack to take a look. There's also still time for you to get involved with some summer fundraising by joining the Walk With Me challenge... everything you need to know around what this is and how to sign up can be found here.
Thanks for reading Staff Matters, we will be taking a break in August but will be back with the next edition in September. As ever, please do raise a ticket if there is anything that you would like to chat to someone in People and Culture about.
