Process for adding and equipping new Training Facilitators
We want to provide the opportunity to empower new and existing staff who would like to become Training Facilitators.
Who should become a Training Facilitator?
The decision on whether to sign off a new member of the team as a training facilitator will depend on two key factors (a) the national and local need for more facilitators and (b) the skills set and development goals of the employee.
A conversation about becoming a training facilitator should take place during a new staff members induction and the following can be set in motion if the decision is made that they will join the training facilitator team.
How do new (or existing) employees become Mod 1 & 3 training facilitators?
Step 1 - Attend all 3 Core Volunteer Training modules.
Step 2 – Application form.
The line manager fills out a Facilitator Application Form (FAF) and send to the Training Coordinator who will take staff through to the next stages
Step 3 - Pre-Training.
Staff member is invited to an online training meeting. The meeting will take staff through the various aspects of online and face to face delivery such as presentation tips, Quality Assurance standards and use of technology.
These meetings will take place every 2 months to ensure a regular flow and accessibility of staff training opportunities.
Staff will then be added to a rota and will shadow a Module 1 session for volunteers alongside an established duo of facilitators. They may take a small role in this eg. running tech or delivering a small section.
Step 5 - Observed
Following on from this staff will deliver Module 3 to volunteers alongside one other facilitator and be assessed by a staff member using the QA standards.
Step 6 - Sign Off
Once feedback has been received and the staff member is approved, they will then be added to the facilitator team and included in the rota for delivery in accordance with their working hours and preference stated on the FAF.
How do new (or existing) employees become Mod 2 training facilitators?
All Safe Families staff members can deliver face to face Module 2 training alongside an identified facilitator without needing to be a trained facilitator themselves
If a staff member wants to become a Mod 2 facilitator then they would follow steps 1 and 2 as above followed by….
Step 3 – Training
The local identified facilitator will take staff through the various aspects of face-to-face delivery and the Quality Assurance standards.
Step 4 – Shadow
Staff will shadow a Module 2 session for volunteers alongside an identified facilitator. They may take a small role in the session, e.g. refreshments / welcome etc (i.e. they are on the team)
Step 5 – Observed
Staff will facilitate delivery of Module 2 to volunteers alongside one other facilitator and be assessed by an identified facilitator or senior staff member using the QA standards.
Step 6 – Sign Off
Once feedback has been received and the staff member is approved, they will then be added to the local facilitator team.
Ongoing management of Training Facilitators
Once a member of staff has been signed off and added to the facilitator team the expectation is that they will deliver online training for the Core Volunteer Modules of 1, 3 and 4 approximately once a month. The National Training Coordinator books all the training events onto the database up to 3 months in advance. If the facilitator is unable to deliver, either due to sickness or conflicts with other appointments, they need to arrange a swap or cover with one of the other team members.
Facilitators will be assessed on a biannual basis by a senior staff member to ensure excellent delivery standards are maintained.
